StMaa_100930_CT7439b.jpgThe 2013 festival had a Composer-in-Residence, Albert Schnelzer, a Swede who has won international success, not least at the London Proms. During the week we presented a number of his works and a premiere of a commissioned piece.

Timeless classics were on the program: the Gran Partita by Mozart, the Quartet for the End of Time by Messiaen and the Trout Quintet by Schubert: Schubert was the leading character of the final concert. You didn't want to miss performance artist Charlotte Engelkes humoristic staged interpretations of some of his lieder, and the the Trout Quintet in its original form played by the festival soloists.

Our Artistic Director, Staffan Mårtensson, performed as a clarinetist and conductor and you could meet some of Sweden’s best musicians, such as violinist Tobias Ringborg, pianists Love Derwinger, Per Tengstrand, Shan-Shan Sun. We were glad to present a top string ensemble, The Young Östgöta Chamber Soloists, consisting of students and newly graduated players from Scandinavian Music colleges.

As for jazz, the legendary Swedish bass player/composer Georg Riedel performed with his daughter Sarah Riedel, herself a prominent singer and composer, and the extraordinary pianist Jonas Östholm. The local jazz professionals, Östgötabandet, performed in Kisa in their traditional summer concert. If you’re in to folk music, you didn't want to miss the Östgöta Brass Quintet when they performed with singer Marie Länne Persson. A fascinating journey into 200 years of local folk music.

Children of all ages are welcome to each and all of our concerts, and our specific children’s concerts were crowded as usual.

Welcome to enjoy another year of wonderful music in a province of beauty in 2014!

Patron of the Östergötland Music Days: Governor Elisabeth Nilsson
