Welcome!

StMaa_100930_CT7439b.jpgThe Östergötland Music Days 2015 invites you to enjoy classical music and jazz in our lovely region. The festival’s main cities are Linköping and Norrköping. But we play all over the province, in castles, churches, art museums, concert halls, parish houses, industrial buildings etc.

The festival opens on the inner court-yard of the Linköping Castle. Star soprano Elin Rombo is featured in a Musical and Opera program with the Östgöta Symphonic Wind Orchestra – one of Sweden’s five professional wind ensembles. The concert is conducted by our Artistic Director, Staffan Mårtensson, who will also perform as clarinetist in the festival.

A topic for this year’s concerts is the marriage between word and music. You will find two works by Schönberg inspired by poetry, Pierrot Lunaire and Verklärte Nacht. You will hear singing, recited poetry, prose reading and literary reflections.

During the week you will meet some of Sweden’s best artists, such as pianists David Huang and Love Derwinger, singer Ibba Andersson, actress Stina Ekblad. As for jazz, you will hear Sweden’s jazz queen, Rigmor Gustafsson in Norrköping, with Östgötabandet and Stockholm Chamber Jazz in Linköping.

The final concert is the venue for two artistic giants: Strindberg and Beethoven. Texts by the former are coupled with music by the latter, performed by Uppsala Chamber Soloists, it all tied together by journalist/writer Ulrika Knutsson.

A young string quartet, the Tilia Quartet, will perform Swedish music from the romantic era. Local professionals include the Crusell Wind Quintet, Östgöta Brass Quintet and Östgöta Chamber choir.

Children of all ages are welcome to each and all of our concerts, but we do have specific children’s concerts, this year in Linköping and Norrköping.

Take a good look into our program. You will find a number of interesting venues to visit, not only for the music but for the quided tours, exhibits, for a picknick or a moment of church tranquility.

Welcome to enjoy wonderful music in a province of beauty!
