Johan Ullén is Composer of the Year at Östergötland Music Days 2011

A specially commissioned piece for clarinet and string quartet will be premiered on Grande Finale, August 20, by Staffan Mårtensson and the Vlach Quartet.

Several of Johan’s pieces will be performed during the Music Days:

"Det är vackrast när det skymmer", song for baryton and piano (Now Comes the Night, 19 Aug)

"Amfortas' Dream", for wind quintet and piano (Dreams and Tangos, 19 Aug)

"Tango Doce", for clarinet and piano (Dreams and Tangos, 19 Aug)

from "The Lethal Sins", Seven Tangos for piano trio (Grande Finale, 20 Aug)

"Lady Macbeth", mezzo soprano and piano (Grande Finale, 20 Aug)

Johan will be in Linköping during the festival, so don’t miss the lobby music at First Hotel. There is a piano there…

Johan Ullén was born in 1972. He studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He has performed with orchestras in Sweden and Finland and has also scored considerable sucess in USA.

In the year 2000 Johan was selected to be "Artist in Residence" at the Swedish Radio. This led to a multitude of concerts and recordings, notably by works of Rachmaninov, Alkan, Liszt, Godowsky och Clementi. He is a busy concert artist and has released several CD:s.
