Staffan Mårtensson, Principal Clarinet of the Stockholm Royal Opera, is the Artistic Director of Östergötland Music Days/Linköping Chamber Music Festival since 2001. Read more about him on

www.staffanmartensson.com.

Here is his presentation of this year’s programme:

The Östergötland Music Days/Linköping Chamber Music Festival 2012 open with a well-known jazz voice on the inner courtyard of the Linköping Castle. A concert with Rigmor Gustafsson will leave nobody untouched. I hope this goes for all of this year’s concerts. If you feel, when leaving one of our concerts, that you have got something new and unexpected, and that you have had a moment of musical pleasure – then I am satisfied.

You are invited to listen to world famous pianist Peter Jablonski, the LUX Quartet – a superb string quartet from Vienna, Swedish jazz legend Jan Allan, the ensembles of Östgöta Symphonic Band (the professional wind orchestra residing in Linköping), and other musicians.

It is a pleasure to invite pianist Bengt Forsberg, a favorite musician among chamber music lovers. He plays all around the world, and he has a special talent for tracing down forgotten master-pieces. Otto Freudenthal is giving a piano recital at Bjärka-Säby castle, a most welcome reappearance of the founder of the Music Days. Again, we are happy to collaborate with the cities of Kinda and Vadstena, as well as with Norrköping, where we present six concerts with a blend of programs in various venues: the talented young violinist Sofi Sunnerstam playing duos with Mats Jansson, Jan Allan at jazz club Crescendo, lunch-time concert at the Art Museum, a piano recital with Peter Jablonski, and a matiné at the Löfstad castle with cello and harp.

Children of all ages are welcome to each and all of our concerts, but we have always scheduled specific children’s concerts in the Music Days, this year in Linköping and Norrköping.

As the week concludes, we invite you to a tribute to Nobel Laureate Tomas Tranströmer, whose words are pure music. I am looking forward to the Final Concert with actress Stina Ekblad reading his poetry, in close harmony with music.

Welcome!
