StMaa_100930_CT7439b.jpgThe Östergötland Music Days 2014:

We invite you to enjoy classical music and jazz in the lovely province of Östergötland. The festival’s main cities are Linköping and Norrköping. But we play all over the province, in castles, churches, art museums, concert halls, parish houses, industrial buildings etc.

The festival opens on the inner court-yard of the Linköping Castle on the 9th of August. Soprano Maria Fontosh is featured in an opera program with the Östgöta Symphonic Wind Orchestra – one of Sweden’s five professional wind ensembles. The concert is conducted by our Artistic Director, Staffan Mårtensson, who will also perform as clarinetist in the festival.

The official opening speech is held by Governor Elisabeth Nilsson, the Patron of the Östergötland Music Days.

During the week you will meet some of Sweden’s best musicians, such as Royal Court Singer Karl-Magnus Fredriksson, violinists Tobias Ringborg and Claudia Bonfiglioli, pianist Karin Haglund, organist Hans-Ola Ericsson, the Crusell Wind Quintet, and Östgöta Chamber Soloists, a virtuoso string ensemble consisting of students and newly graduated players from Scandinavian music colleges.

Our international guests, Ensemble Contraste from Paris, will give a very French chamber music evening, also featuring improvisations over themes given by the audience. You are welcome to contribute! Another French event is when Karol Beffa, composer and pianist, plays his music and improvises to the film Au bonheur des dames, a silent movie classic from 1930 about the Paris fashion world.

The Final Concert will be a major event for lovers of chamber music: the septets by Beethoven and Berwald presented together. These two master-works were written for the same instruments, the latter inspired by the first. A rare happening with a group of celebrated players. This concert will also feature an exciting Cello Intervention by Mats Lidström and his students. Don’t miss it!

As for jazz, you will meet Sweden’s most recent jazz star, singer Isabella Lundgren in Norrköping, Linköping and Kinda, with Östgötabandet, a professional jazz orchestra based in Linköping.

On three festival nights, we invite you to enjoy spontaneous music-making among the festival artists in the lobby of First Hotel Linköping.

If you’re into history and music, go see Östgöta Brass Quintet when they perform a program about and around Bishop Brask, a fascinating 16th century local personality living in a time of big changes.

Children of all ages are welcome to each and all of our concerts, but we do have specific children’s concerts, this year in Linköping and Norrköping.

Take a good look into our program. You will find a number of interesting venues to visit, not only for the music but for the quided tours, exhibits, for a picknick or a moment of church tranquility.

Welcome to enjoy wonderful music in a province of beauty!
